Red Carpet Glam: 2012 Academy Awards

Here are my personal best dressed favorites from last night's Academy Awards.  Overall the show was, eh, to me.  Billy Crystal was funny, but as far as the movies that won??....um, I still haven't talked to ONE person today that has seen the "The Artist".  *pause*  Anyway on the red carpet I did notice a lot of white, pastels, ivory and fishtails trends.  What was your favorite from the night?
Penelope Cruz in custom Giorgio Armani
Probably my favorite from the night. Very old Hollywood glamour
Cameron Diaz in Gucci Premiere
Don't ya just love her short hair?!
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad gown
K, I'm not going to lie, don't love the dress but her hair and makeup look phenomenal.  And who doesn't want to look this great in their 40s? Or 30s...or 20s..
Kelly Ripa in Carolina Herrera
Simple, classic black and white
Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel
I'd have done maybe a statement earring, but this gown is still just so light and pretty
Viola Davis in custom Vera Wang
2 points on the board for rocking the natural hair, and this green is so on trend for Spring!

Octavia Spencer in a Tadashi Shoji gown (yes! She won for Best Supporting Actress in "The Help"!)
I thought this gown was lovely on her and accentuated her figure perfectly

And finally, because I'm in love with this color this season...

In Memoriam: Whitney Houston, The Ultimate Glamour Girl

This is mostly a fashion/lifestyle blog, but I have to take a moment and recognize one of my childhood idols.  When I heard the news of Whitney's passing, my heart literally sunk.  I grew up on her songs, movies and feel like she was apart of my childhood.  I would belt out, like many others around the world most likely, "I Will Always Love You" as a little girl in my bedroom.  I had her tapes, CDs, even wrote a letter to her fan club.  My heart and condolences sincerely go out to her close friends and family and especially her daughter since I know the pain she is feeling, having lost my mother at a young age as well.  With that said, we all know Whitney Houston had a stellar, angelic and amazing voice, but she also had impeccable style.  Here are a few pictures that highlight her glamour.

Rest in peace dear Whitney.  <3

Valentines Sweet Treats

I'm no Susie Homemaker or whatever you call it, but I will cook or bake every now and then.  I don't have much time to make things from scratch, but I hey, isn't that what they make mixes and things for?  I saw a picture of these cookies on a coupon for Betty Crocker (hence the purchase of the Sugar Cookie mix) and decided to make it.  You can find a similar recipe here.

Recipe on the package for sugar cookies: Mix 1 egg, cookie mix, 1/2 cup of butter together

Roll the dough into small balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees

Put a spoonful of icing onto one cookie and add sprinkle pink and red sprinkles

Place another cookie on top, and voila!  Matching manicure is optional, although it does add a nice festive touch when you pass out the cookies.  For an upclose picture check out https://www.facebook.com/ASliceofGlam and don't forget to "like"!

New York Fashion Week Fall '12: BCBG

BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear

I may or may not have woken up at 7:30 am to watch the Live Stream of the first day of New York Fashion Week, hmmph.  Which, by the way you can watch too on Live Runway.  Anyway, I most likely couldn't really sleep because I was just too excited to see the collections this morning.  One of my favorites from today was BCBG.  Color blocking (have you not noticed I'm a fan?), pleated skirts, fur and lady-like bags went down the runway for the designer.  Shades of Tangerine Tango, and rhubarb, and blue were featured in many of the looks.  Here are my favorite pieces from the show today.

The D'Orsay Pump

The D'Orsay Pump

I am obsessed with this shoe this season!  It looks great with the knife-pleated skirt, pencil skirt, or straight leg pant.  They are so feminine, yet sharp and sexy.  A great shoe for work, or dinner with friends.  I definitely need to add a pair or two to my closet!  I'm thinking in either nude or black, to go with several looks.

Glam Kitchen | Fiesta Salad

Eating from the cafeteria at my job can be expensive.  I usually only even go in there on the days that I don't have time to pack my lunch.  So, I decided to try to recreate the same salad at home that cost me $7 bucks from the cafeteria!!!
Chop green onions, rinse black beans, corn, and slice tomatoes

Mix together in a bowl and add seasonings and place in fridge overnight

The next day I added shredded carrots, cheese, sliced chicken, chopped celery and lettuce with the toppings I'd made the night before and, VOILA!  I topped with Sun-dried tomato dressing and it was delicious and filling!

Little Things That Make Me Happy

I actually had a Saturday off and spent the day having some quality ME time!  Shopping and relaxing around on a crisp, sunny (but not warm, seems Texas wants to have Winter again!) day was well deserved and needed.  Here are my random snapshots from the day.
